The Petrovic Protocol Association in Australia
In March of 1997 I was a geriatric Australian ( 67 years old ) who had been retired for fourteen years. I hadn’t even heard of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I had taught for thirty-two years. My wife had taught for over twenty years. Our two children had completed their schooling. Between the four of us we had not come across anyone with the disease. Now everybody knows a number of people affected by it.
My daughter informed me that my granddaughter had been diagnosed with the condition and that as far as Australian doctors were concerned it was incurable. She asked me as a last resort to look on the Internet to see if there was any chance of a cure overseas.
I found that Doctor Nash Petrovic of Johannesburg had been curing many patients for four years. I decided that I would like to give as much help as possible in spreading news of his treatment to Australians.
As a first step I wrote to the local newspaper. Six people consequently paid to take the treatment. I felt some responsibility for this group. My background as a head teacher in primary schools for nearly thirty years led me to the idea of forming an Association of interested parties and writing a newsletter to keep in touch with the patients, and let them know how others were progressing.
By December most of the patients had shown various degrees of therapeutic response and most of my original objectives had been addressed. I felt that I should probably cease my activities. As my interest waned Doctor Petrovic’s increased and he suggested that the newsletter should go on to his website.
Since the Autumn newsletter therefore I have had to re-define the aims of the Association.
The original aims were :
- To inform Australians that a doctor in South Africa had a very good success rate in treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
- To provide a means of communication with the doctor for local patients, especially those who did not have access to a computer.
- To build a base of information locally so that documents could be provided quickly once a prospective patient decided that they wanted to know more about the protocol.
- To build a database of individuals and groups in Australia who had an interest in CFS.
- To educate interested parties about antioxidants and the ‘ Free Radical Therapy ’ model of treating CFS.
- To make other medical information that Doctor Petrovic passed on to me accessible.
The current aims are :
- To continue to add to the database of interested Australian individuals and groups.
- To provide the latest information about overseas patients to Australians.
- To inform the rest of the world ( universe ? ) of the progress of Australian patients.
- To continue to learn about the ‘ Free Radical model of medical treatment ’ and to try to put this theory in terms that the ‘ man in the street ’ can understand.
On the 3rd of June 1997 Bernard and I went to see our local member of parliament and asked him to place a submission about Dr. Petrovic’s treatment in to the hands of the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Michael Wooldridge, M.P. I used the clipart shown above to indicate that ‘ Doctors are Caring for the Community ‘
